Code of Conduct
All students are expected to behave appropriately. If a student causes a disruption during lessons, rehearsals, or concerts Dr. Jenkins will give that student one warning to change their behavior. If the student fails to do this, the student’s parent will be asked to sit with the student during lessons and rehearsals, and the student may be asked not to participate in concerts.
Attendance
Like any other team, the band functions best when all of its members are present. AAA Band students are expected to be at all rehearsals and performances except in the case of illness or family emergency. Any other absence request should be submitted to Dr. Jenkins at least two weeks in advanced. If a student is sick or has a family emergency, please notify us as soon as possible via the Band app or email.
Students are required to attend regular weekly private lessons. The number of private lessons should be at least equal to the number of scheduled full rehearsals (31 rehearsals during the 2026 – 2027 school year). Students are encouraged to continue lessons throughout the year.
Grading
Grades will be calculated based on:
50% Class and Private Lesson Participation
30% Playing Assignments
10% Written Assignment (Theory etc.)
10% Concert Preparation and Attendance
For private school students, grades will be submitted each semester to school administration. Private school credit will be determined on a case by case basis in consultation with individual schools.
Pass-offs:
Pass-offs are an integral component of the AAA curriculum. In addition to monitoring student progress, pass-offs will be utilized to determine scholarship eligibility and band advancement. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure satisfactory progress passing off method book lines, rhythm lines, scales and theory assignments. Pass-offs can be completed in the following ways:
1. Through MakeMusic (for available method books)
2. Performing live for Director or Student Director
3. Performing live in private lessons
4. Emailed submissions to Director (scales and pieces not available on MakeMusic)
5. Theory will be collected and graded weekly
